At the end of 2002, I was talking to Eduardo de Morais, who is the vocalist and leader of the band Finis Africæ from Brasilia, which was getting back into the swing of things. I showed him my recent work and he was interested. So we had the idea of recording the song “Sozinho”, which I particularly like a lot, but the band had never recorded it professionally, and it never went beyond a demo. It would be a good opportunity to immortalize this beautiful song with modern quality, and Eduardo, who also lived in Rio and near me, would come to my house to record the new vocals, since they had never been recorded for real.
But it was already the end of the year, and we let Christmas, New Year’s Eve and Carnival pass, and only in 2003 did we think about it again. In the meantime, I was working little by little on my own and he was going back to studying the lyrics, which are quite long and complicated. We had arranged to meet several times to record, but something unexpected always happened to get in the way, and to make matters worse, the band’s comeback didn’t work out and it broke up once again.
But Eduardo also became a father and his obligations increased considerably while his free time was disappearing, along with the idea of recording the song “Sozinho”. In the end, I finished with the Instrumental Demo version ready to just add the vocals, but we didn’t talk anymore and left that idea for another time.
Ironically, I ended up using this instrumental version a lot in my singing lessons, and I ended up recording it with my vocals, more to show him how it turned out, as a guide voice.
This Demo is from 2002 and was the last thing I did in Fruity Loops (FL Studio). Everything was programmed there, except for the keyboards, which were recorded live for this demo, with my beloved Roland XP-50, which I unfortunately no longer have.
