David Vesel

David Vesel is a friend of mine on some electronic music forums and I had been helping him with his new album and the idea of remixing one of his songs came up. David is American and has years and years of history in music. He was about to release his seventh album on CD, in addition to the ones previously released only on cassette, and also having several songs on compilation CDs spread around the world.

He then sent me a remix kit of his newest song “A Man of My Word (The Wedding Song)”, to be released on his next album Your Mileage May Vary. It was really cool to work with it because it has a very 80’s feel, and I had the freedom to mess around with its melody, making it very retro, with a very nostalgic vibe, very reminiscent of Camouflage during the Voices & Images album period.

“Hearing the first remix of a song of mine was a special thrill, and Freddy’s mix exactly hit the vibe of the song. I shiver every time I listen to it!”

He liked the result so much that he decided to ask other remixers to remix other tracks, and they should be released in a limited edition of his new album Your Mileage May Vary, including my remix of course. But unfortunately that never happened.

  1. “A Man of My Word (The Wedding Song)”
  2. “Rubber Raft”
  3. “I Don’t Play the Game”
  4. “Sentience (All of Us)”
  5. “How Much”
  6. “Drowning”
  7. “Gullible”
  8. “Goddess”
  9. “Frozen World”
  10. “Living in Dreamland”
  11. “I’ll Still Be Here Tomorrow” (theremin: Kevin Kissinger)
  12. “Snowblind”*
  13. “Two Different Views”**
  14. “A Man of My Word (Chinese Theatre remix) (music: Krister Peterson)
  15. “A Man of My Word (Hajas remix) (music: Freddy Hajas)

These were the last official posts about his music:

After rebuilding his home studio, David began working on his new album, Your Mileage May Vary, in December. Odd personal challenges continually set production back. In March, his daughter Maggie was born, which was joyous news, but then his son Eric was diagnosed with autism. David was also diagnosed with Diabetes, and in September he had to admit that he had an issue with alcohol abuse. And that was just 2004. 2005 has been a whole lot better, and production resumed on the album in September.

Once again rescheduled for release in April 2006, it promises to be his best effort yet. Stay tuned for more developments!

RIP David

As the years went by, we didn’t hear from him or his music anymore. He stopped responding to messages. Unfortunately, he passed away in April 2012. Since it was the year my son was born, my house was under construction and I was far from the internet, I only found out about this tragic news the following year.

In addition to being a musician, he was a renowned teacher and a well-known host of radio shows such as Spellbound (a brief program of music for theremin) and Escape From Noise, where he used to play mainly synthpop. He was also a dear friend. Rest in peace, my friend.
