In 1996, my friend Alexandre Ferro invited me to add an electronic touch to the performance of the band Colcheias Confusas. The band was formed by Érico Barbeitos (Vocals and Guitar), Alexandre Ferro (Lead Guitar), Márcio Loureiro (Bass) and Rodrigo Lopes (Drums).
That was when I lost my “virginity”, on stage, of course. The song “Fantasma” was performed at the 2nd Student Song Festival, FESCAN, which was held by Radio MEC. It was the first time I had stepped on stage, we played for almost 200 people, and the adrenaline you felt was really amazing.

Érico, the front man, just wanted a simple accompaniment, but I came up with a really crazy sequence that gave the song a new feel, because the chords changed very quickly, and just using chords would make the song very repetitive. My idea was very well received by them.
Well, with this solo I had to double my rehearsals accompanied by a cassette tape of theirs. I had a little over a week to rehearse the song, and that made me a little insecure because they had been playing it for a long time and I was afraid of making a mistake and ruining everything since I would have to play my sequence live.
Then we rehearsed once at Márcio‘s house, still using programmed drums, and then another 2 hours in the studio to see how the drums and my sequence with the band would sound. Almost everything was already rehearsed, it was more of a general rehearsal, which went very well.

Unfortunately the song didn’t make it past the first phase, Rodrigo lost the beat and led the whole band astray, we had to stop and start over, and we had agreed to play “Ghostbusters” next, but even that went wrong, we started almost 1 minute later and it completely ruined the performance, but it was still cool, we had a few good laughs and it was worth the experience.

In the following years I did some work for the band, such as Artwork, Restoration, Mastering and even Duplication of CDs for them to sell at their shows.

In 2000 I ended up joining Érico and Alexandre to form Modo de Usar just to compete for a spot at Rock in Rio III.
