Chinese Theatre

In early 2006, I was approached once again by the German band !distain to do another remix for them, but this time by Chinese Theatre, a Swedish project led by my friend Krister Petersson, who, like me, is better known as a remixer, and is preparing an album similar to DJ RAM‘s Virtual Server project, and on one of its tracks features !distain as a guest.

Chinese Theatre‘s style is really cool, but it’s very similar to the sound of the early 80s. I really liked the song “History Forecast” that they gave me to remix, which made my job a lot easier.

I enjoyed working on this song so much that when I realized it, it was almost 8 minutes long because of all the stuff I added to it, mainly solos. So I edited it a bit so it wouldn’t be too long, but it was still a little longer than I intended, ending up at a little over 6 minutes.

It was released as a bonus track on the first album by my friend Krister’s Chinese Theatre, who was already a long-time friend of mine. We met while exchanging synthpop bootlegs and were always bumping into each other and sharing various remix contests as well as chatting on forums like the late Electrogarden.

Right after it was finished, everyone really liked my work. I was very happy to work once again with the guys from !distain, who I can now also consider great friends, and I can say that this was not our last collaboration.

Unfortunately there was a mistake between the order of the tracks and how it looked on the cover, swapping my Remix, which was actually on track 14, as if it were on track 13. To make matters worse, when everything was incorporated by Streaming, my remix was lost with the name of another Remixer, and I ended up signing a Remix that wasn’t mine.

RIP Krister

Unfortunately, on March 10, 2016, we all learned of the untimely death of my friend Krister from SIDE-LINE Magazine. Besides being my friend and having spoken regularly for years, he was also known for several projects aside of Chinese Theatre, such as Vision Talk, Vz Vintage Project and the most recent SwedIT, which he always spoke about with great enthusiasm in all our last conversations. A great loss in the Synthpop world. Rest in peace, my friend.
