Camouflage

The famous and incredible German band Camouflage, of which I was a huge fan, held a Remix Contest in 2006 to remix the song “We Are Lovers” and I couldn’t miss this opportunity.

I dedicated myself a lot to this remix and ended up being one of the 10 selected by the band. At the time, they asked for a short bio of my work, photos, and 2 other remixes, which would be hosted on their official website where all 10 selected ones would be available to listen to. And that they would eventually release all of them as singles and compilations.

But time went by and only one of the remixes ended up being used on a very underground compilation and nothing else happened, and my remix, which I considered one of my best works, was forever in limbo.

In 2008, with the success of Call of Duty Frontlines, I needed a song to be its theme, both in the game and in the promotional videos. So I had the idea of using the instrumental I had made as the basis for what would be the theme song for my game, which ended up being a huge success. At the height of Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare, there were almost a dozen websites that used my song as their theme, which was common at the time for background music to be playing on websites.

Unfortunately, my remix was never officially released despite the great honor of being one of those chosen by the band I admire so much, and it spent years in the dark because the band asked us to never share these remixes or they would never be officially released.

“Hi Freddy, we received your mix – thank you so much – Listening to the different ideas and details we are overwhelmed about you – spending so much time on our Song, great mix! All the best, CAMOUFLAGE”

Heiko

So in 2023, almost 18 years later, I decided to release it on YouTube, with a video that I produced myself, using the band’s live performance as a backdrop. Which, by chance, adopted a live version extremely similar to mine, which for me was another great honor to have somehow, even if unconsciously, influenced Camouflage.
