Ada de Luque

The LuzArt Music label that launched Cuban singer Ada de Luque held a Remix Contest paying US$1000 to the winner, and of course I wasn’t going to miss this one.

Although Ada was born in Cuba, she moved to Miami with her family when she was 5 years old, where she was raised. She studied Opera and was very successful in Europe, especially in Italy, where she met Luciano Pavarotti, with whom she became great friends.

“…a voice of rich and velvety quality…beautiful voice…”

Luciano Pavarotti

In 2003 she was no longer singing opera, but rather Acid Jazz, with several electronic elements, making very calm and interesting songs. The files were all in WAV format, and since my connection was very bad, I had the help of my friend Rodrigo Cohen to download the files so I could work.

I had never heard of her work before, and although her style is very different from mine, I decided to take a chance and remixed the song “No Color Of You” as indicated. Unfortunately, I didn’t win the prize, but it was worth the experience.

In the end, the label only had Ada on its roster, and closed down right after the results were announced, offering copies of Ada’s only CD as a prize without mentioning the promised cash prize. None of the remixes were officially released. I even researched her but never found any relevant information about her other than the same bio about her past in opera.
