My friend Great Guy (Raphael Alves) made a song called “Don’t Repress Me” on XM that I thought I could improve it considerably. I made my version and I thought it was much better than I had imagined. So I recorded it on a floppy disk and took it to college the next day for him to listen to.
He didn’t like that I had changed his song right away, but he said he would listen to it. After listening to it, he immediately changed his mind and said it was 500% better than the original, and he was very excited about the result, this was in 1995.
So the first version of “Don’t repress me (Mix)” was made.
In 1996, I improved a lot in programming, especially in the stereo area, and decided to reprogram “Don’t repress me”, making a new REMIX, and at Raphael‘s request, I made 3 more new versions.
- “Don’t repress me ’96”
- “Don’t repress me (Alternative Mix)”
- “Don’t repress me (Funk Mix)”
- “Don’t repress me (House Mix)”
A DJ from Denmark became interested in the song and asked for permission to play our song in the pubs there, and of course we agreed. Soon after, it started playing on the radio in Denmark and then we received an invitation to record a CD (album) in Finland.
But they gave us one condition: either we recorded here and sent the DAT to them and they would take care of the rest, or we would go to Finland on our own and they would pay for the studios. But since we were broke, and since those who don’t have money don’t make money… unfortunately, we lost the opportunity.
We always talked about making more songs together, but it never happened. We both kept talking, but we each went our separate ways.
You can listen to all the versions on my YouTube channel and buy them on the eXperience and eXperience B-Sides albums on Bandcamp.
